Guys, we are living in the future! Pepsi is launching a new soda in Japan that blocks fat. Now you can have your sugary sodas and drink it too! Well, if you’re in Japan that is.

“Pepsi Special” will be available only in Japan. It contains dextrin, an indigestible fiber that promotes weight loss by keeping you “regular” and feeling fuller longer.

Today reported that “the ‘science’ to this claim is that a non-digestible starch called dextrin, which is classified as fiber is added to regular Pepsi. Dietary fiber does help to absorb dietary fat, so technically, this is true. Despite the flimsy connection, this kind [of] claim is not illegal in Japan.”

So why can’t I enjoy this soda in the United States? It seems like their health claims are too good to be true and can’t be verified by the FDA’s standards. Unless they can put some hard scientific findings behind this, we’re stuck with just regular diet sodas instead. Maybe Coca-Cola will come along and do this type of soda, but better and with more facts. We can only hope.
